Differences Between Summer and Winter Tires

July 31, 2025

Tire choice directly affects the behavior, handling and safety of the car on the road. Understanding the differences between summer and winter tires allows drivers to make the right tire choice at the right time.

Summer tires are designed for maximum grip and handling in hot weather. They behave stably on hot asphalt thanks to their hard rubber compound, but can crack and become dangerous in cold weather.

Winter tires, on the other hand, provide higher grip on snow, ice and muddy roads with their softer compound and deep tread design. These tires have additional microfiber channels (lamellas) at their disposal, providing additional anti-icing stability.

Driving on summer tires in winter increases the car's stopping distance, loss of control and increases the risk of road accidents. For this reason, it is recommended to switch to winter tires at temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius.

Timely replacement of both summer and winter tires protects the safety of your car, while also extending the life of the tires.
